Hiking in and around Clausthal

Do you already know the Waldkurpark in Clausthal-Zellerfeld? There's a lovely route there that's perfect for a nice afternoon stroll.

The route I have explored for you is just over three kilometers long. It starts at the entrance to the Waldkurpark, which you can't miss, in the Zellerfeld district. The first thing to do in the spa park is to keep to the right-hand path. After a short while, this leads up a small hill on which a Kneipp water treading pool has been built. Treading water stimulates your circulation and metabolism and promotes blood flow. Sebastian Kneipp, who gave his name to the medicine of the same name, was a priest and naturopath who popularized this method.

After the pool, continue along the path and leave the hill. At the bottom, you come to the Carler pond. The old mining pond was used to supply water to an ore mine. The small house, which can be reached from a footbridge, is also known as the Striegelhaus and is used to regulate the water flow. However, from now on you do not follow the path along the pond, but continue in the opposite direction.

Follow the country lane and you will pass the Ringer Zechenhaus, which was originally built for the "Rheinischer Wein" group. There you can drink wine from the Rhine or have something to eat. After a while, the path takes you past the middle colliery pond. There you pass the Robinson adventure playground and walk over a suspension bridge. You then pass the water strider pond, where it is quite quiet. The path is very beautiful and you won't meet many people along the way. Once you have walked past the ponds, you can see very far. If you continue along the route, you will eventually reach the Zellerfeld district again after a while. Now turn into Schützenstraße and follow it so that you end up back at the entrance to the Waldkurpark.
